Rebecca’s MMA Debut Fight
So my friend Rebecca is one of those people who beats up people for fun (I use that term loosely, of course). She’s been trained in Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling and an assortment of other beat-your-opponent-to-pulp martial arts.
She’s probably the only Computational Linguist I know who threatens to beat anybody up who doesn’t agree with her theories on the evolution of language (namely that people being clubbed on their heads developed speech as an evolutionary mechanism to scream and distract the guy with the club).
Anyway, this past weekend, she had her very first Mixed Martial Arts fight in Dalton, Georgia. Not surprisingly, she won, wiping the mat clean against her opponent.
So here are all three rounds of that fight on video. I am so very proud of her! (She made me say that, though).
Round 1
Round 2

Aw, thanks K! You are my favorite fan! Just kidding. It does actually seem that I have fans, though, mind boggling though that might seem. These two crazy sort of high pitched girls were screaming my name at the fights. They asked me if they could sign me to their management company or something. I looked at them like they were crazy. And this dude made me take a picture with his son. Very funny. People said all kinds of things to me afterward. Mainly just congratulations and, “Good fight!” but also one girl told me, “You have more balls than any of the guys that got in that ring!” I was like, “Wow… Thanks.” People said our fight was one of the most active amateur fights, and the best to watch. But I’m not so sure I said that part about the theory and the bashing… Although I could’ve forgotten considering all these head blows I’ve been getting in training.
Just kidding. I didn’t get a scratch in the fight but people told me that my opponent had big leg bruises. So, I’m considering that a positive thing! I am quite happy with the success. Thanks for posting it and making me famous!
