Call Me a Supermodel, Pay Me in Anything But a Dollar

Apparently, the dollar isn’t just scaring hedge funds and financial investors. Gisele Bundchen, the highest-paid Brazilian supermodel does not want to be paid in US dollars anymore.

That’s right, folks. You know things are bad when the (hot) women decide the dollar isn’t for them anymore.

Damn, and here I came to the US thinking that I could earn the big-bucks in USD so that I can get all those hot women (for cheap, no less). Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to move to Europe.

LOL, saw the same story on CNBC. They were running a teaser the entire hour before the story, asking what Gisele and Buffett have in common. As is well known, Buffett has not been too hopeful about the long term prospects for the greenback.

Hahaha. Yeah, I’ve been seeing the story everywhere else. You know it’s bad when even the babes don’t want it, right? :)

Seems a little odd, really… since as soon as her fee is deposited it can be turned into the currency of her choice anyway.

Unless they hand over briefcases of cash or something, it would just be a matter of asking for a magic number.

Anyway, she’s not the one you want. You want the kind of girl that’d do anything for a tenner, so you could spend an hour coming up with something she could do to earn a hundred. :p

Hey, I’m no high-paying Brazilian model, and I don’t get paid in USD either!

Milorad: I suspect it might have something to do with _immediate_ volatility; the USD depreciated by about 6%-ish against the Euro since August. I don’t know how fast fees are paid in the modelling industry, but if there’s a two-month lag between negotiations and getting paid (which seems reasonable), then you’ve already lost 6%. In this corner of the world, that’s tax.

    Two quick additions:

    1) XE.com has an interesting UI update specifically aimed at USD-CAD conversions. Kinda re-inforces the point.

    2) JayZ flashes $500 Euros (the article’s choice of units, not mine) notes in his new music video.

[...] that whole thing about sexy, hot models not wanting the USD? Well, turns out that it may not be entirely [...]

    @ Milorad –

Heh, tell me about it. I think the problem is one of conversion — you still lose a good bit in that, you know.

And while the tenner girl maybe awesome, there’s something to be said about quality. ;)

    @ Cydonian —

Yeah, someone else pointed out the CAD in XE.com too. Funny that, eh? A lot of my friends who travel to Canada have been complaining about it for sometime now.

And thanks for the JayZ link, btw. Weird. Models first, rappers next. Man, you’re almost making me make a case for the greenback. :)
