Creeping back up…

Okay, it’s been about 3 months since I updated all you fine folks — so, this is just to let everyone know that I’m alive and kicking somewhere.

The site isn’t completely up yet, however large portions of it are creeping back online. While the original content isn’t back yet for some of the pages, I’ve put placeholders in their place (this is primarily to please the search engines). I hadn’t realized that changing the content would take as long as it did.

If you notice, I’ve also gotten rid of a lot of very old stuff (like some of my older graphics programs, older code and reference pages). These made sense in 1998, but are pointless today — most people do not know (or care) what VESA, Mode 13h or Int. 21h are. But I might just end up putting these back later, if only for nostalgic purposes.

On the other hand, the categories have been simplified, and there is a lot less to weed through, and I’ve tried to ensure that most of the stuff stays relevant.

I’ve also opted for simplicity, providing folks with the bare minimum, adopting the “simper is better” philosophy. Content, categories and the design are simple and easy to navigate — and more importantly — redesign and add to, dynamically. From both an end-user (i.e. you) and a developer perspective (i.e. me), I’ve tried to make it more usable and aesthetic – hopefully!

So, there, I hope I gave everyone a break from their thumb twiddling, because you now have to go back to it, while I go figure how to bring the rest of the website back online.

How about simply making a nostalgia category and forget about it? or rather not. whichever works for you. The comment moderation thing still rankles though. Cannot verify if a posted comment is formatted properly. any fixes?

That’s an awesome idea, now why didn’t I think of it?

I’ll probably add a nostalgia section to most other sections, and include these there — makes more sense, you know?

Well, actually, once you post and I approve, your comments automatically appear the next time. I also have a spam filter that learns, so while I get some comments up for moderation, I don’t get a lot of others.

I also need to figure out how to have a preview button of sorts, will work on that, thanks.

    Any other suggestions?

Instead of comment moderation (if you’re using that), you could give Wordpress’ Akismet plugin a try. Works very well.

Actually, I do have Akismet installed — but I still get a lot of spam. So, I just installed a Captcha system, let’s see how that works.
